Scott Ross
Scott Ross is an American Digital Media Icon. He ran Lucasfilm’s Industrial Light & Magic, which was Lucas’s special effects company. While at the helm, ILM won five Academy Awards. He oversaw the special effects on films like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Innerspace, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and the Abyss. In 1993 Scott left ILM to form a new effects company called Digital Domain with partners Jim Cameron and Stan Winston, two Hollywood legends. While running Digital Domain, his company won two Academy Awards for Titanic and What Dreams May Come. Scott opens up about what went on behind the scenes at Lucasfilm and how difficult it was to run ILM under the leadership that was in place at the time. He also reveals the tremendous pressure he was under from James Cameron, his partner, while running Digital Domain.
We discussed his new book that was recently published, titled, “ Upstart The Digital Film Revolution. Managing the Unmanageable.”
